We left Cleveland around 3:00pm on Thursday and arrived in Manchester, England about 7:00am Friday. We then rented a car and drove about 1 1/2 hours to York where we spent the majority of our stay. All in all the girls did pretty well on the trip over. Madison loved that each seat on the plane had their own TV screen where she could watch Disney shows and play games. It was great entertainment. What she didn't like was doing school work. Avery decided to stay awake all day until we reached Newark and fell asleep during our lay-over. She cried herself to sleep about 2am on the flight to Manchester. It was such a long day for her.
Once we arrived in York, I dozed off for about 2 hours while Alex went to the grocery with the girls. We then decided to walk around a bit. Here are a few pictures of what we saw on our first day. Mind you we were all pretty groggy with barely any sleep. It was like a preview walk of what we would later tour and explore in more depth.
This is Clifford's Tower - what remains of York Castle.
This area is called "The Shambles". It is made up of tons of quaint stores on these skinny cobblestone streets. We spent almost everyday walking through these streets.
This is the York Minster. A magnificent Cathedral we later toured.
Our first dinner was at the Mason Arms. We had steak pie and meat & potato pie. Definitely traditional English food. We didn't really remember how good it was because at that point we were ready to pass out...so we decided to return again another night so we could enjoy the food a litte more.

You guys are going to have such a great time! How long will you be there, and is there something special you're there for? Have fun, and hope it isn't too difficult to adjust to the time difference and travel lag!
