Our Trip to England - Day 3 (part 1)

This was our first full day of actual site seeing. It was a beautiful morning and not too cold so we decided to walk the wall. This was a wall built around York dating back to the 12th Century. It was amazing to walk on something that old and to think about why it was built. It was a great opportunity teach Madison about how they would protect the city on this wall.

These pictures give a little detail about the wall and show a map of the remaining portions.

When asking Madison about what she remembered about the wall, she said, "when the soldiers would die protecting the wall, the others would just push them over the edge so someone could take their place." At least she retained some of what we talked about. I'm also hoping she remembers the quiet feeling of walking on such a remarkable piece of history. Luckily we were able to carry Avery's stroller up & down the stairs so we could all enjoy the walk.
